Temperature Regulation 

A common mistake people make when they are cold is to turn their heating up high. However, it is important to remember that turning your heat up to the highest setting will not heat the room any quicker, but it will cost you more money, so making sure you keep your heat pump between 17-20°C is key.  

Regular Filter Changes 

Another easy way to keep your heating bills low, is to clean your indoor and outdoor heat pump filter regularly. We recommend that you do this at least once per year. You can do it yourself by removing the filters and washing them in room temperature water. When drying them it is important to leave them in a shaded area in your house, as exposure to the sun can cause filter deterioration.  

Draft Exclusion 

Especially during winter months, blocking out drafts in your house can make a big difference. Allow the sunlight to warm to rooms throughout the day, and in the evening, close the curtains and shut the doors. Don’t forget that warm air can be swept up through the chimney; a draft excluder can help to combat this issue.  

Insulation 

Having a well-insulated home is key to money saving when it comes to your heating bills. You won’t need to use your heat pump as often if you can stop warm air escaping through the walls, roof and doors of your house. Loft insulation, double glazed windows and cavity floor insulation are all great and will all last for many, many years.  

Annual Service  

It’s vital to get your heat pump inspected once a year to ensure it is working efficiently and safely. The technician will inspect ducts, filters and blowers and check for leaks, as well as cleaning and tightening terminals, lubricating motors, and verifying correct electrical control.
